There are basically 2 kinds of products one which are built for consumer and the other built for business. Let us understand the basic difference between them.

Consumer : These products are built with design, style, colour and the fashion statement in mind with very less attention on the performance.

Commercial : These products are built with a very high attention to security, productivity, durability, longevity in terms of parts availability, longer warranty duration etc.. complete focus is on performance rather than looks.

While you may argue that both the products have Intel based CPU how could the performance differ for the product with same DNA. Since commercial products are designed with performance in mind they are tuned with such software’s which gives you better productivity.

Difference between ThinkPad & IdeaPad

ThinkPad is a commercial laptop invented by IBM and later taken over by Lenovo. In fact ThinkPad is the worlds first notebook computer. It is also the only computer to have worked in space. Let me hilight the unique features which a ThinkPad has.

1. Security: It comes with a Finger Print Reader, TPM for data security ( it encrypts the data stored on the hard drive which makes it impossible to steal the data even if you lose your laptop)

It comes with metallic hinges which are tested for 30000 cycles of opening /closing the laptops. All ThinkPads are military specification certified which means it undergoes 12–14 methods of rigorous testing which includes performance in extreme temperatures, humidity, altitude, sand test, mechanical shock test, vibration test etc..
3. Warranty : It comes with a 3 year warranty which can be further extended to 5 years, the point to note is not the fact that such long warranty is available but the product spares availability is there for 5 years.

5. Battery Life : The battery stand by is 3x of the consumer grade laptops and there are options available to upgrade to 6 -9 cell which can’t be done on consumer laptops.
